About the Green Community Development Program

With the Green Community Development Program GHFS wishes to promote the recuperation and revival of cultural awareness, including those dimensions of Surinamese culture that embody positive values and practices, as well as indigenous knowledge about the environment.

The mission of this program is:
To establish and maintain a program that records and promotes positive values, practices and knowledge about the environment in collaboration with the groups from which this knowledge originates.

Specific goals:

  • Record local knowledge about the environment and the surroundings of Kalebaskreek and the Coppename River in collaboration with the community of Kalebaskreek.
  • Record local knowledge about the environment and surroundings of Pikin Poika in collaboration with the community of Pikin Poika.
  • Record local knowledge about the environment and the surroundings in collaboration with local coastal communities.
